First Haircut

Sydney got her first haircut today. Her average hair length isn't really that long. The longest hairs on her head are from the top of her head – it's actually kind of funny: She had a good amount of hair when she was born, but eventually all the hair on the sides and back of her head wore off from when she was laying on her back. When she started sleeping on her tummy, the rest of her hair started growing in – but the hair on the top of her head is still mostly her original baby hair.

It's so long that it gets in her eyes, so we decided to trim it up a little just to get it out of her eyes. Baby hair is so fine that it is hard to put it in a hair clip, so I think the only other option was to cut it.

Now we just have to wait for the rest of her hair to catch up with the hair on the top of her head!

First Airplane Ride

Today we took Sydney on our first airplane trip. Our seats were in the very last row of the plane, which was nice, because then there was no one behind us. We boarded early because they let people with small children get on the plane first because we take more time. We were settled in our seats when we saw a man coming to the back of the plane – he was sitting in the last row on the other side of the aisle. When he found out he was in the very back of the plane and glanced over and saw Sydney, I heard him say to woman he was with, "This is going to be the worst flight ever!" I was secretly hoping that Sydney would scream the whole flight just to oblige him, but she was a little angel!

She was pretty tired when we got on the plane but was looking around and wouldn't fall asleep. Once the plane started moving she cried a little bit because she was over-tired, I think, but only for about 30 seconds. All of a sudden she just crashed and slept for more than half of the flight. When she woke up, she ate some food and it was about time to land. The flight went great!

The Grocery Store

Today we took Sydney to the grocery store for the first time. It was really funny because she likes to hear her echo, so she squeaked and made cute little screams the whole time we were there! Sitting by herself in the cart is not her favorite thing, so I carried her for most of the trip. There were a couple of times when she got pretty loud and everyone was looking at us – which made me turn a little red. I suppose I'll get used to it some day!

5 Months Old!

Sydney is 5 months old already! We can't believe how much she has grown and changed already. She can sit by herself for about 5 minutes before she starts to wobble – she seems to like sitting and seeing everything from a different perspective. We also found out she really likes to drink from glass cups. She's been doing fine with her sippie cups, but when we give her a drink out of a glass, her eyes light up and she grabs the glass right away. She sticks her tongue in the glass when she's drinking, kind of like a puppy. She really wants to hold the glass all by herself, but if we let her she tips it too far and dumps the water in her face.

We're also finding her in different positions in her crib when we get her up from her naps. It seems she prefers to sleep on her tummy instead of her back, because most of the time she is on her tummy when we get her up.

Solid!

Sydney had her first solid foods today! She was pretty funny and cute with the food. She actually did a lot better than I though she would. I pictured her spitting and sputtering wondering what this stuff in her mouth was, but she just made some wierd faces and ate the food. It was obviously a different taste for her, but she still ate it. It was very messy though, just like I thought it would be!

First Meal

She is also doing very good at holding a sippie cup and sipping from it. Her sippie cups have perfect little baby handles on each side that are perfect for her to hold. She looks so cute because she tips it all the way up when taking a drink.
