This is one of those proud, proud moments of parents (or at least, we are very proud of Sydney)!
We were down in Texas for Christmas, and Sydney just decided to take a couple of steps to her Uncle Aaron! We were pretty surprised, and Sydney was very happy and proud of herself.
Today we took her outside and let her walk to us – she walked all around, just loving the applause we were giving her!
Today we took Kari out for her birthday. We went to P.F. Chang’s, and Sydney got to drink water using a straw. When she was done drinking, she kept the straw and lifted it up with her mouth. We started cracking up at her, and she got so proud of herself. She thought she was sooo funny!
Sydney just loves to eat apples – When Emily is eating an apple, she usually lets Sydney take little bites here and there. We thought taking her to an orchard would be a lot of fun for her – we took her to Emma Krumbees apple orchard and she had a blast. She just loved taking little bites out of all the apples.

It really is crazy how fast time with your children goes – it sounds so cliche, but it really is true. Sydney can roll around pretty easily now – it is her main mode of transportation. You can tell when she sees something she wants that she is thinking really hard how to get there, and then she just starts rolling towards it.
She loves to make noise. Pretty much anything she does that makes noise, she will try to repeat it, and if it keeps making noise, she gets a huge smile on her face. She is obviously very proud of herself. Her favorite thing is to shake something that rattles (like a baby rattle or some kind of a container with something inside) and shake it as fast as she can.
She also loves to look at her books. Usually we will sit with her and read books to her, but she likes to look at her books by herself. Maybe that means she is going to be smart!
How do you write about a sound or a noise? I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I'll give it a shot.
Sydney makes a wheezing, whisper-noise with her voice whenever she's in the bathroom (she must like the acoustics there). It's like she is saying Ahhhh, but whispering it – it kind of whistles too. It's so hard to describe – but it is so cute when she does it. She can be playing loudly and then she'll be totally quiet and make that noise. She has the slightest hint of a smile too. It's just so random when she decides to make the noise that I'm not sure if we'll ever be able to get it on tape or on video. Once we bring the video camera in she gets very distracted.
It's such cute noise, whenever Emily or I are thinking about Sydney, we try our best to make the noise and it always cracks us up. Only Sydney can make that noise, and it's funny how it's becoming such a special memory of her.
