Baby Noises

How do you write about a sound or a noise? I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I'll give it a shot.

Sydney makes a wheezing, whisper-noise with her voice whenever she's in the bathroom (she must like the acoustics there). It's like she is saying Ahhhh, but whispering it – it kind of whistles too. It's so hard to describe – but it is so cute when she does it. She can be playing loudly and then she'll be totally quiet and make that noise. She has the slightest hint of a smile too. It's just so random when she decides to make the noise that I'm not sure if we'll ever be able to get it on tape or on video. Once we bring the video camera in she gets very distracted.

It's such cute noise, whenever Emily or I are thinking about Sydney, we try our best to make the noise and it always cracks us up. Only Sydney can make that noise, and it's funny how it's becoming such a special memory of her.

First Haircut

Sydney got her first haircut today. Her average hair length isn't really that long. The longest hairs on her head are from the top of her head – it's actually kind of funny: She had a good amount of hair when she was born, but eventually all the hair on the sides and back of her head wore off from when she was laying on her back. When she started sleeping on her tummy, the rest of her hair started growing in – but the hair on the top of her head is still mostly her original baby hair.

It's so long that it gets in her eyes, so we decided to trim it up a little just to get it out of her eyes. Baby hair is so fine that it is hard to put it in a hair clip, so I think the only other option was to cut it.

Now we just have to wait for the rest of her hair to catch up with the hair on the top of her head!

6 Months Old!

Sydney is 6 months old today – one half of a year! She can pretty much sit by herself without any help, and if she does start to fall over she can catch herself. She can pick up smaller things with her thumb and pointer finger pretty well. She is also really starting to enjoy her books. She has always shown interest in books before, but she is very content to sit for a long time and look at books.

Baby Kisses

Sydney is starting to enjoy looking at herself in the mirror. She gets very excited when we bring her into a bathroom where she can stand on the counter in front of a large mirror. Usually she puts both of her hands on the mirror and dances and laughs. Today, she got very quiet and leaned in to kiss the other baby – it was very cute. She did it over and over again, and I managed to get this picture:

First Airplane Ride

Today we took Sydney on our first airplane trip. Our seats were in the very last row of the plane, which was nice, because then there was no one behind us. We boarded early because they let people with small children get on the plane first because we take more time. We were settled in our seats when we saw a man coming to the back of the plane – he was sitting in the last row on the other side of the aisle. When he found out he was in the very back of the plane and glanced over and saw Sydney, I heard him say to woman he was with, "This is going to be the worst flight ever!" I was secretly hoping that Sydney would scream the whole flight just to oblige him, but she was a little angel!

She was pretty tired when we got on the plane but was looking around and wouldn't fall asleep. Once the plane started moving she cried a little bit because she was over-tired, I think, but only for about 30 seconds. All of a sudden she just crashed and slept for more than half of the flight. When she woke up, she ate some food and it was about time to land. The flight went great!
