Yes or No
Whenever Sydney asks us a question now, and we don’t answer definitively, she tells us, “Yes, or No?”
Some examples:
Sydney: Mommy, do we have any Rice Crispies?
Emily: I’m not sure – we’ll have to go downstairs and check.
Sydney: Yes, or No?
Emily: Hey Sydney, you were supposed to put your dirty clothes in the basket.
Sydney: Oh, sorry Mommy. Did I forget?
Emily: It’s okay – I think you just got a little side-tracked.
Sydney: Mommy – Yes, or No?
Sydney: Mommy, can I have hot chocolate when we get home?
Emily: Well, we’ll have to see how late we get home.
Sydney: Yes, or No?
Hearing all the times she asks us the “yes or no” question makes me realize how many “in between” answers we give to her.

It’s so amazing to see Sydney’s vocabulary increase, as well as her ability to put words together to make sentences – so much change in the past couple of weeks.
One funny thing she has learned is when she comes to ask us for something. Before, it was something like this:
Sydney: Rella mommy, rella (Rella means Cinderella)
Mom: You want to watch Cinderella? (We usually clarify the question just in case we misunderstood)
Sydney: *nods her head*
Mom: No – no movies today, Sydney – but you can watch a movie when we go to Grandma’s tomorrow.
Sydney: *falls to the floor crying*
The other version of how it used to go is like this:
Sydney: Book mommy, book.
Mom: You want to read a book?
Sydney: *nods her head*
Mom: Okay! We can read a book
That was before 2 weeks ago. Here is how the conversation has evolved:
Sydney: Rella mommy, rella
Mom: You want to watch Cinderella?
Sydney: Okay! *runs over to the TV*
Aparently she figures if she answers the question for us, then it is “Okay!”
